This Privacy Policy describes how Barry Counter ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and discloses your information when you use our mobile application ("Barry Counter" or the "Service"), available on iOS and Android. By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Privacy Policy.
Barry Counter integrates with platform-specific game services for social features:
When you sign in with your platform's game service, we receive:
We automatically collect certain information when you use the Service:
Barry Counter offers an optional location reminders feature and a map view of your counts. The app accesses your location only after you grant location permission, and only to power these features. If you do not use them, your location is not accessed.
We use location data in two ways:
Your location stays on your device. We do not send your location to our servers, and we do not store it in our backend. Location coordinates are processed locally on your device to set up and trigger geofences, and the coordinates of places you save for a reminder are stored on your device so the reminder can be recreated. The only time location leaves your device is when the map is displayed: the on-device maps component (Google Maps on Android, Apple Maps on iOS) receives location to render the map and your position. That data is handled under the maps provider's own privacy policy (Google on Android, Apple on iOS). We do not sell your location data.
We use the following third-party services to operate Barry Counter. Each service may collect data as described below:
We use Google Firebase, a platform provided by Google LLC, for various backend services. Firebase is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. The Firebase services we use include:
| Service | Purpose | Data Collected |
|---|---|---|
| Firebase Authentication | User account management linked to Game Center (iOS) or Google Play Games (Android) | User ID, authentication tokens |
| Cloud Firestore | Store user profiles, scores, and friends data | User data, scores, social connections |
| Firebase Storage | Store profile images from game services | Profile photos |
| Cloud Functions | Server-side processing for features like friend management | Data processed as needed for functionality |
| Firebase Analytics | Understand app usage and improve the Service | User identifier (Game Center ID or Google Play Games ID), usage events |
| Remote Config | Manage feature availability | No personal data collected |
For more information about how Google handles data, please see Firebase Privacy Information and Google's Privacy Policy.
On iOS, we use Apple Game Center for leaderboards, achievements, and social features. Apple processes this data according to Apple's Privacy Policy.
On Android, we use Google Play Games for leaderboards, achievements, and social features. Google processes this data according to Google's Privacy Policy.
We use the collected information for the following purposes:
We do not sell your personal data. We may share your information in the following situations:

Barry Counter lets you attach a daily photo to your count and choose whether to keep it on your device only, share it with your friends, or show it on the global leaderboard. You are responsible for the content you upload and you agree not to upload images that:
Before an image is shared with friends or shown on the global leaderboard, it is screened automatically using Google Cloud Vision SafeSearch. Images that the screen flags as adult, violent, or otherwise unsafe are rejected and deleted, and never become visible to other users.
If you see an image in Barry Counter that you believe breaks these rules, long-press the relevant leaderboard row and tap Report image. Reports are reviewed; an image that receives multiple reports from independent users is removed automatically pending review, and we may take further action against the account that uploaded it.
You can block any other user from the leaderboard via the same long-press menu. Once you block someone, you no longer see their images and they can no longer see yours. We do not notify the blocked user.
We aim to review every reported image within 24 hours and to remove anything that breaks these rules. We may also remove an image at our discretion, suspend or terminate accounts that repeatedly violate these rules, and preserve a record of removal actions for safety and auditing purposes. To report content that you believe is illegal, infringes your rights, or sexually exploits a minor, contact us at the address in section 12 below — we treat such reports as urgent.
Images you share with friends or post to the global leaderboard are stored on our servers. In addition to the automated screening described in section 9.1, authorized members of our team may access and review these images — including images you have shared only with your friends — where it is necessary to:
This access is strictly limited to the purposes listed above; we do not view your images for any other reason. Where we identify content that sexually exploits a minor, we will preserve it and report it to the appropriate authorities (such as law enforcement or a recognized child-protection hotline) as required by law. We keep an internal record of moderation and access actions for safety and auditing purposes. Images you choose to keep on your device only are not uploaded to our servers and are not accessible to us.
Barry Counter is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will take steps to delete such information.
